Near Loch Island Lodge, a bay of Wabatongushi Lake narrows into a dam, and the water spills over into the rapids of Glasgow Lake, our top portage destination. Another portage leads to Loch Lomond. Many guests have asked us when the dam was built and how its construction changed Wabatongushi’s depths and shorelines. In this post we’ll look at the history we’ve uncovered so far, and reveal a relevant photograph which we believe is the oldest to exist of the region!

Driving down the gravel roads snaking to Camp Lochalsh, you’ll see a number of overgrown turn-offs into the trees. These now-lesser-travelled trails lead to the early mines which put the Lochalsh-Goudreau region on the map during its gold rush in the first decades of the 1900s. The mine featured in this post will be the Cline Mine.
Hello all! Hope you are all staying inside and being safe out there! A number of guests have been inquiring about their trips for this summer. First, it’s premature to know what the summer months will hold. No one knows how long this quarantine will last. If by some chance we are not open during the time you are booked due to Covid19, we will be rescheduling those trips to a later summer date or 2021. All deposits and payments for this year will then be honored for the later booking or 2021. Also, any prior discounts on a trip that is cancelled due to a shutdown from Covid19 will be honored.
On a brighter note, spring has sprung! Very soon, a small part of our staff will be venturing into camp to start varnishing boats and get things opened up. We still have another month of ice on the lake, but that allows us to travel via to work at other locations. We are still planning on opening May 16th with a full staff on hand! Stay tuned for current up to date ice conditions on the lake and pictures!
It looks like we may have an early ice out this season. That being said, the Walleye should be in their “typical” spring spots come opening day! Moose River, Tie River, Moose Bay, Tie Bay and the narrows should be hot!
We are all looking forward to getting back to camp. See you all this summer!

Here we are, late February already! The recent mild weather has been melting snowpack and making the lakes slushy. Spring is just around the corner and only two more sport shows to go!
Join us this week in Detroit / Novi, MI for the legendary “Outdoorama” show, Thursday to Sunday! This grand daddy of sport shows has been around for many, many years and is considered one of Michigan’s biggest sport shows. Combined with the Cottage and Lakefront Living show next door, one ticket buys you access to both which are under one roof. It’s a great show to bring the whole family to! Stop by and see us in booth 5506.

Next month, March 19th – 22nd is the Ultimate Sport Show in Grand Rapids, MI. This year, the show will not fall on the same weekend as the St Patricks day celebration, so the dreaded downtown traffic will not be an issue! We always look forward to exhibiting at the Grand Rapids show.
