April Update

Winter is over! We’ve made our last trek across the ice to Loch Island. Our next time on the lake will be via boat! Although in many places south of us spring arrived a month ago or more, last week on Wabatongushi winter was still hanging on. Spring has sprung now and the melt has started!

We do get a lot of maintenance done during the winter months, especially inside jobs around the lake. Hauling building supplies in across the ice is much easier as long as you have good ice! No problem this year with that!

We’re getting excited for this season! When we arrive in the end of April, we will focus on opening up Camp Lochalsh for the staff to arrive. Once staff starts arriving, the fun begins! With over 30 cedar strip boats in our fleet, a lot of work needs to be completed on them in the spring, including sanding, varnishing and making any repairs that are needed. We’ll put the motors on and outfit them for the season! Once the ice is off the lake, we’ll head to our other locations and get everything ready to go for opening day. We’ll also be making our annual trip to Giesler Boats in Powassan, ON to pick up 3 more new boats to add to our fleet!

Don’t forget the photo contest is running until May 15th, with the winner being selected on opening day! Email us your entries to photos@lochisland.com if you haven’t done so yet!
