It’s days around the corner! The lake is free of ice, the call of loons is all around and very soon we’ll start seeing cow moose and their calves along the shoreline. Let’s not forget the start of our daily shore lunch, up the lake in less than a week! Read on for Spring Opening news and Open Dates info below….
Opening News
Spring has finally arrived, after a month of colder temperatures which prolonged the ice out. There are still a few patches of snow in the bush, but it’s going fast! This spring has been very busy, with a lot of new faces on the crew and some old familiar ones as well, we’ve all been working like mad to get everything up and running. Lots of projects that started last fall had to be finished as well as our normal opening tasks such as varnishing boats and getting all the cabins opened.
More new boats!
This year we made our annual pilgrimage to Powasson Ontario a bit earlier than normal. Giesler Boat Builders were kind enough to get four cedar strips ready for us to pick up the first week of May. I took the liberty of snapping a few photos of the production facility for everyone to see. It’s always fun to talk to the master craftsmen at Giesler and watch them hand building these wonderful cedar boats we rely on. Gerry Giesler is great to work with and so helpful in loading up the boats with us for their long 10 hour journey to Camp Lochalsh.
Still Some Spots Available
We still have open dates! Although this season is busier than last, we still have lots of open dates throughout the summer. The Isle of Jordan actually opened up twice in the last month, with groups moving around we now have a week in June and another week in August open. That’s very unusual for sure, so if you have a group of four or more and want to do your own cooking, contact us. There are also open spots, at other locations.
More new outboards will be added to our fleet this spring! Last year we added 5 new 20 hp Yamaha’s and this spring we’ll add another 5. This should top off our fleet nicely! Here are some pictures of the lake just a few days ago!
Monthly Photo Drawings
We have to still choose an April Photo winner – got lost with all the season start up! But send us your great photos of fish, wildlife or adventures on the lake, and each month one winner will win some Loch Island Apparel. We just ask that you allow us permission to use your photos on the site here and on our social media potentially.
