We had the pleasure of having Mark Melnyk and crew from The New Fly Fisher join us last year for some great speckled trout fishing. Just got word that you can view the full episode this week starting this afternoon…
Mark with our guide Ryan catching some Brook Trout and more, on our outpost lakes and Wabatongushi. Towards the end is a highlight of Taylor cooking up fresh fish at our unique shore lunch offering. You’ll also see Taylor on the docks! You can reach us by train, float plane or drive “as far as you can” for your wilderness vacation.
Let us know what you think of the show in the comments below!
Some exciting news… First, Algoma Country and The New Fly Fisher are hosting a Best Catch photo contest open to all guests who have photos of last year’s catches – all fish considered. Our own super-guide Ryan is featured in the promo materials for the contest above, from when Mark Melnyk of The New Fly Fisher visited us in the Spring (full episode will be released this Winter)
But, also, please email us your photos as well and we will try and highlight them all here on the website… send to: email@example.com
Second, in addition to seeing us from Loch Island at the at the Ultimate Fishing Show this week, Thurs, Jan 10th to Sun, Jan 13th, The New Fly Fisher’s Mark Melnyk and Colin Mckeown will be in the Algoma booth as well. You can talk to Mark about his experience at Loch Island, fishing both on the big lake and outpost lakes. Short video from their trip can be viewed on this blog post.

If you haven’t been to Loch Island in a while, you’ll be amazed at what we’ve done in the last 6 months! The entire island is now connected via boardwalks! It all started with a replacement deck on Cabin 3. The old porch was very small and needed to be upgraded. While looking at it, we decided to go big or go home! With a brand new 8′ X 16′ deck on the cabin and a connecting walkway, it was looking good! It was then we figured, “why not do them all?” and that’s what we did.
This fall, we’ve been working hard at the three bedroom cabin (Big Otter) on Otter Island! Returning guests will notice many improvements made for the 2019 season, and new guests will enjoy Big Otter’s wilderness comforts.
We have been having a great couple months now and the fish are biting. Wanted to share a few guest fish pictures and let you know some of the news around here. In early June we were honored to host the guys from The New Fly Fisher TV program. Expect the full episode soon, but down below we have a short preview of their adventure. Also the Outdoor Life article is now available to read online [Click Here or Image Below].
News around the island includes a new Georgian Bay cedar boat from Giesler and Sons, that we are using for guest pickups.
