Successful Moose Hunt for 2019! (And 2 Weeks Left for Early Rate Booking!)

It’s finally the end of the season, and we’d like to thank everyone who came out this year! It wouldn’t be a success without you! We always enjoy seeing both familiar and new faces up on the lake each season. As well, we look forward to seeing some of you this winter at the Sport Shows.

Moose Hunt 2019

The moose hunt is over at Camp Lochalsh! Between the late September archery hunt and the October rifle hunt, our hunters took two bulls, one cow and one calf. The moose population in our area seems to be booming right now! That’s good news for hunters and wildlife watchers in the spring and summer. With the whole lake being in the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve, Camp Lochalsh hunters need to hunt across the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks just south of camp. Seeing moose around the lake in the spring and summer is something we really appreciate. Congratulations to all the successful hunters this year!

Floatplane coming out for winter

Hawk Air in Hawk Junction, Ontario handles flying in all our guests with bigger float planes (upto 8 passengers and gear)….
But you know winter is not far off when our airplane comes out of the water! In summer, it gets used for some supply runs. It was just a short time ago that the journey south to pull the airplane was made. It’s only an hour flight, give or take, to get to Marks Bay in Sault Saint Marie, Ontario. At that point, the airplane is removed from the water and put back on wheels for the winter. Stored at Sanderson Field in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, our Cessna 172 becomes a benign land plane. We’ll use it all winter for flight training, but it’s just not the same as it is on floats!
