Fishing Shows are Back! — Detroit/Novi, NE Ohio & Grand Rapids

Winter is upon us! The lake is blanketed with ice and snow, cold and desolate, asleep for the winter. Another four months of ice, then it comes alive again. In the mean time, we can all dream about waves lapping on the side of a cedar strip boat, the lonely call of a distant loon and hungry Walleye eager to just leap into that frying pan! To help you all get through the long winter, the fishing shows are starting this month!

This year we will be back exhibiting at three sport fishing shows in the U.S. …

First will be the Ultimate Fishing Show in Novi, MI, January 12th – 15th. This is a huge show. We have not done it since 2020, but it’s full of tackle and just about everything you can think of fishing related. Visit us in booth 1104!

Right after the Ultimate Fishing Show is the NE Ohio Sportsman Show in Millersburg Ohio. This is a smaller, more diverse show right in the heart of Amish country. It’s not a big show, but their fry pies and homemade ice cream are worth the trip! The dates are January 19th, 20th and 21st. Keep in mind this show is not open Sunday. It runs Thursday through Saturday. Stop by and see us!

We take a break after the Ohio show for a month and a half, then are off to Grand Rapids for the Ultimate Sport Show right downtown at the Devos Center. The show runs March 9th – 12th. This is the grand daddy of shows and probably the largest and most attended fishing show in Michigan. Tons of tackle, fishing seminars, exhibitors of all kinds and usually some really annoying indoor chainsaw lumberjack shows! We’ll blog more about this show as it gets closer.

I know for most of you, going to sport shows is part of a tradition. It’s a nice way to break up the long winter months and give us all hope that spring is right around the corner. We really look forward to going and seeing you all there. If anybody would like to volunteer working our booth, let us know and we’ll see if we can make that happen!

— See you hopefully soon!

The Early Rates are out for 2023!

I know we are a bid tardy on getting our “early” rates out, but here it is below! With all the building this fall, we just returned to our winter shelter a few days ago. Snow is beginning to blanket the lake and very soon ice will begin to form. You can monitor the ice forming from one of our two lake live cameras at Camp Lochalsh. Click here to view them. Our first sport show is only two months away!

We are in full 2023 mode now, hiring our staff, taking reservations and planning for what we may need for next summer. Between all of that, it’s also a great time to decompress.

We are filling up quickly with return guests, so if you have a specific date in mind for next year, it would be wise to check with us to see if it’s still open. Call or e-mail and we’ll get you in the book!

We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!

2022 Season Wrap Up and Fall Construction Frenzy

With the last loon calls echoing across the lake and winter cold whistling in through the bare trees, it’s time to reflect on the summer and enjoy the fall.

NEW Border Measures Update Through to September 30, 2022

We have received public notice that requirements for travelers arriving to Canada are expected to remain in effect until at least September 30, 2022. This means that the government is not planning to lift the current vaccination and ArriveCAN app policies for the remainder of our fishing season.

If you have a reservation with us for this summer and are now unable to come to Canada, please contact us as soon as possible and we will re-book you for 2023.

All travelers must continue to use ArriveCAN (free mobile app or website) to provide mandatory travel information within 72 hours before their arrival in Canada. For more information, click here for the ArriveCAN website.

If you are planning to travel to the lodge, here is the quarantine destination address:

45 Old Lochalsh Road

Lochalsh, Ontario

P0S 1B0

Note that the Canadian postal code format is letter, number, letter, number, letter, number (so it’s: P ZERO S    ONE B ZERO ).

We have also updated the 2022 Checklist with this address.

The full statement from the Public Health Agency of Canada can be read here.

We are disturbed and disappointed by this federal decision, which continues to have a major impact on our business. Our representative business organizations, Nature & Outdoor Tourism Ontario and Algoma Country Tourism, continue to bring the wilderness tourism industry’s struggles forward to the federal government, and we hope for change as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience in these difficult times. We appreciate your visits and encouragement.
