Winter is over! We’ve made our last trek across the ice to Loch Island. Our next time on the lake will be via boat! Although in many places south of us spring arrived a month ago or more, last week on Wabatongushi winter was still hanging on. Spring has sprung now and the melt has started!

We do get a lot of maintenance done during the winter months, especially inside jobs around the lake. Hauling building supplies in across the ice is much easier as long as you have good ice! No problem this year with that!

Spring is finally here…almost!

This season, big changes are coming to Camp Lochalsh! All new docks with floaters off the ends, a brand new enlarged fish shack and limited morning and evening dock service will greet guests starting in May.

Winter is almost over! Spring is right around the corner, mild temperatures are going to start doing damage to the ice on the lake and our days of working by snowmobile are quickly coming to an end. We got a lot done, which should make opening day much easier!

One more sport show to go and it’s a big one! We’ll be heading down to Grand Rapids, MI for the Ultimate Sport Show March 12th – 16th. It’s the grand daddy of them all, with lots of tackle, outdoor gear and seminars all four days. Look for us in booth 1156. Located right downtown, the show is surrounded by great restaurants and plenty of nightlife! Saturday is Irish on Ionia downtown, so be prepared for lots of green beer and fun activities!

Hey all!

We’re on our way to Novi, MI again! Outdoorama starts tomorrow, February 19th, at the Suburban Collection Showplace! It’s one of the oldest shows with lots of outdoor gear, seminars, fishing and hunting gear and much more. Paired with the Cottage and Lakefront Living show you can check both out with just one ticket! We’re in booths 5603 and 5604. We hope to see you all there!

Greetings from the frigid Northern Ontario bush!

It’s that time of year when our crew heads into camp by snowmachine to start our winter projects. We have a few jobs to complete before ice out. Most of the winter work is on Loch Island this year. A new room on the staff building will be great for the cook. Changes to Cabin 6 that include a new floor in part of the cabin plus a lot of much needed trim work are also on order. We’ll need several trips in to get all the work done. Between the sport shows and working around the lake in the winter, we keep busy!

                         

Our friendly neighborhood fox shows up every day begging for food scraps. They’re big ones this year with full coats and appear to be eating well. It’s good to see them thriving in such harsh conditions. Lots of Moose tracks along the trail into Lochalsh but so far no live sightings. It’s been cold, with night time lows in the minus 30 range and daytime highs not much better. Spring can’t come fast enough!

              

Next week we’re heading to Outdoorama! This is one of the oldest sport shows in Michigan. Held in Novi at the Suburban Collection Showcase, it runs along with the Cottage and Lakefront Living Show. The show runs Thursday, February 19th – Sunday, February 22nd. We’ll be in booths 5603 & 5604. Stop by and say hi!
