Your Wilderness Getaway…
Nestled in a sheltered cove just 1 ½ miles from Camp Lochalsh, Sandy Bay has a fantastic view of the lake and a private beach for swimming and enjoying campfires. The shallow weedy bay is an excellent pike fishing location, and trolling along to Patterson Bay is a scenic and productive fishing route. Sandy Bay is close to Bear Point, a great summer and autumn spot, as well as Coddam’s Creek. Being inland, from time to time, guests may see a black bear or moose wander into camp.
This outpost location was constructed in the 1960s as an offshoot of Camp Lochalsh. Guests are welcome to park at Camp Lochalsh, and to gather in the Trapper’s Lounge. Guests who book the American Plan or Modified American Plan packages will need to travel to Loch Island Lodge for meals. Dock services are available throughout the day at Loch Island Lodge, and Camp Lochalsh staff can assist with fuel, firewood, and drinking water.
We currently only rent out one cabin at Sandy Bay, which accommodates 6-8 people. We hope to renovate the second cabin in the future.
Amenities
The cabin has three bedrooms, with 6 boxspring twin beds, and housekeeping staff can make up two futons if requested. The kitchen and three piece bathroom (sink, toilet, shower stall) have hot and cold running water supplied by a gas-powered water pump. Treated drinking water containers can be refilled at Camp Lochalsh, which is only a short boat ride away, or at Loch Island Lodge, a 15 minute ride up the lake. Heat is provided by a propane heater inside the cabin. The cabin is lit with propane lights.
There is no electricity in the cabin. Guests who require electrical appliances or medical devices should book at Loch Island Lodge, Camp Lochalsh, or the Isle of Jordan outpost. There is no cell reception in the area but guests are welcome to access Starlink internet at either Camp Lochalsh or Loch Island Lodge.
