Take
the Algoma Central Railway to the Wilderness Vacation of Your
Dreams...
The Algoma
Central is by far the most famous railroad in Northern Ontario.
One of the last railroads in North America that offers flag
stops, its tracks span from Sault Ste. Marie to Hearst
through some of the most rugged landscape in the world.
Internationally
renowned for its spectacular scenery and famous Agawa
Canyon, this journey from the Sault to our pick up point
in the old ghost town of Goudreau is sure to impress even the
most seasoned train enthusiast.
Your journey
begins in Sault Ste. Marie at the Algoma Central train depot in
front of Station Mall. From there you will board the ACR's passenger
rail service and head north. Some 5 hours later, you will arrive
in the old ghost town of Goudreau where we will be waiting. At
this point, your journey is only just beginning! After departing
Goudreau on our shuttle bus, we will traverse 15 miles of unmarked
gravel and "two-track" roads, past working and abandoned
gold mines, through the Manitou Mountain Conservation Reserve,
cross the Canadian Pacific Railway into the Chapleau Crown Game
Preserve, and finally stop at Camp Lochalsh. Along the way, you
are likely to see a Moose, Black Bear, or Timber Wolf!
Our 2009
Camp Lochalsh / Loch Island Lodge ACR 3-day train excursion!
You will depart
the Sault on the passenger rail train at 9:20 am. When you get
to Goudreau at 3:40 pm,. we will pick you up and transport your
group to Camp Lochalsh. From there you will enjoy our full American
Plan package for three full nights! When it's time to head back
south, we will take you back to Goudreau for your journey back
to civilization!

Another
popular way to reach our lodges is by taking the Candian Pacific
Railway from either White River or Missanabie to the Lochalsh
stop. Located just 1/4 mile from Camp Lochalsh, the old ghost
town of Lochalsh is serviced by a CRP "Budd" car every
day except Monday.
One of the
last CPR passenger rail services left in Canada, the White River/Sudbury
run is considered a "lifeline" for many remote communties
in the north. During the summer months, this line is utilized
by fishermen and hunters as well as locals in remote communities.
